Shanna Widener, Ph.D.

Dr. Shanna B. Widener is the Interim Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management.  Prior to this role she was the Associate Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management, and an Assistant Professor of College Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration in the Department of Communication Sciences and Professional Counseling in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia. She has served as a Faculty Fellow in High Impact Practices and was also an Executive Leadership Institute Scholar with the University System of Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Evaluation, Statistics, and Measurement from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Memphis, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Martin.  Dr. Widener’s primary research focused on historically underrepresented populations' access, retention, engagement, and experiences in higher education.  Other areas of focus included service-learning, community colleges, and bridge programs.  Prior to her work in higher education in the state of Georgia, Dr. Widener was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, TN. Dr. Widener also spent over seven years working with underserved children and families in the Memphis City School System, and Knox County, TN and ten surrounding counties, within the fields of education and mental health.
